About
The Concept
Take an AFL player, find someone (or something) else he looks like and compare. Stick the pics online for people to vote on and enjoy. That’s the concept, this is AFLLookalikes.
The History
The idea of look-a-likes has been around for years. It’s been done for other sports and it’s been done for AFL footy. Pictures of footy players that look like someone else…it’s been on footy forums for ages, it’s been emailed to you at work (thanks Simon), it’s been shown on the Footy Show.
But the AFL lookalikes legacy is threatened. People who posted the original look-a-likes on forums did so with free picture hosting accounts. So if you scan back through those websites you’ll see pages and pages of empty look-a-likes. They were funny at the time, but when the picture dropped off the Interwebs, so did a piece of AFL lookalikes history.
At least here on afllookalikes.com they’ll have a safe home, somewhere for people to view, share and vote. And for future generations of footy fans to enjoy.
